All Your Questions Answered About Custom Color Wrap

If you’re considering a whole new get-up with your car but you don’t want to spend the dollars on something you might not like and you want it to be done quickly, you should look at custom auto wraps.

They are becoming more and more popular throughout Texas and the rest of the US for vehicle customization from the small’uns to the big’uns. But there are still so many questions with some people thinking it can void insurance and others thinking it can harm the paint job (neither are true).

Being a Texan autobody shop, we see a lot of custom body requests come through the door as well as all these questions. So, we’ve got 10 of the most common questions about vinyl wrap designs and their answers:

1. What is a Custom Color Wrap for a Car?

A custom-designed sheet of vinyl begins as a large piece of film that has many designs, prints and colors including advertisements. They’re used so your wheels can have a new lease of life, protection, personalization and can stand out in a crowd.

2. What is the Difference Between Vehicle Painting and Vehicle Wrapping?

Wraps and paint have many differences from style to application. For example, car wrapping is done with sheet vinyl whereas paint is sprayed in thin coats. Wrapping is also cheaper, less permanent, quicker and has more customizable design features.

3. What is the Process for Vinyl Wrap Designs?

A custom-designed (or pre-colored) sheet of vinyl is laminated to protect the color and design from UV rays. Then it’s cut to the body part, heated with a heat gun and stretched over every inch of your vehicle using a blade-free scraper.

4. Can Custom Auto Wraps Damage the Paint?

No. Custom car wraps don’t damage the paint job of your car with proper wrapping and removal. In fact, it’s one of the reasons for getting a car wrap: to preserve the OEM paint job and the overall vehicle value for a later sale.

5. How Long Does a Custom Color Wrap Last?

Generally speaking, most vinyl wrap manufacturers warranty sheets to last three years or 36,000 miles (whichever’s first). After this, it’s go-time for renewal but they can last for up to seven years! Plus, custom auto wraps can be removed any time before this.

6. How Can the Vinyl Wrap Designs be Maintained?

High quality vinyl wrapping is made to resist all weather elements. Although, some best practices to keep it lasting include parking under cover, hand washing with mild detergent, drying thoroughly, avoiding wax and removing bugs ASAP.

7. Is There a Difference Between a Cheap Wrap and a Premium Wrap?

Much like anything else: you get what you pay for. However, in the case of car wrapping, it’s usually the service that proves this. If you don’t want micro-tears, badly fitted vinyl, wrinkles, dust spots or air bubbles, think about a premium wrap.

8. What Are the Different Types of Custom Color Wrap?

Car wraps can come in many shapes, colors, sheens and sizes. They can be full-body or single-panel designs for promotion. Most of the time, they’re custom-made by a graphic designer before being printed in a glossy, matte, satin or brushed texture.

9. How Long Does It Take to Complete a Quality Auto Wrap?

Getting custom vinyl wrap designs can take anywhere from 1-5 days. This will depend on whether you’re getting a full-body job on your pick-up done or a simple graphic panel on a small coupe. It also depends on how busy the autobody shop is.

10. How Much Do the Graphics and Quality Fit Cost for a Custom Wrap?

Again, this depends on the size of the vehicle you’ve got in the shop and what kind of job you want doing. It can range from sub-$100 for lettering to an average of $1,500 for a full-body dress-up. At least it beats the average $5,000 paint job.
